Publishing for Kindle, iBook and hardcopy format means maintaining 3 different files. Ergo, anytime I make an update, I have to make it in 3 different places, and go through 3 totally different processes.

Although the most rewarding / easiest to use, I have to say that Amazon’s format is the most painful to work with. I use Mobipocket Creator. While I appreciate that it’s free and does its job, managing the file structure and table of contents is extremely cumbersome.

1) Always start chapters / sections on odd pages. It looks weird to have a chapter begin on the left-hand side of a book.

2) Have even numbered page numbers on the left-side of the page, and odd-numbers on the right.

3) Try to use a 7 x 9 layout at the largest. Anything bigger looks like a thick magazine.
